In a senseless act of violence on January 17, 2014, Jahmeer Jett, a 19-year-old Black male with a promising future as a boxer, was fatally shot in Southwest Philadelphia. The son of a Philadelphia police officer, Jett was known as a good kid who had never been in trouble with the law. He was walking home when an assailant approached him from behind and shot him multiple times in the back, just a short distance from his mother's house.
