On a cold January evening in 2014, the quiet of rural Pike Township was shattered by a grim discovery. There, in the driveway of her Long Lane home, 48-year-old Louisa Tseng Krenzel was found lifeless in the snow. A native of Taiwan, she had been shoveling the recent snowfall when she was struck by multiple gunshots, one of which pierced her heart.
The investigation that followed would reveal a troubled domestic history but has yet to bring justice for her death.
It was Louisa's estranged husband, Jules Krenzel, who reported finding her frozen body at approximately 8 p.m. on January 22nd. Investigators believe she had been killed hours earlier, sometime between 4 and 8 p.m., shot from a distance while she was clearing her driveway. Bullet holes found in the garage door, about five feet from where she lay, attested to the violence of the act.
The focus of the investigation soon turned to Jules Krenzel. While he was not charged in connection with his wife's murder, a darker picture of their relationship began to emerge. Just months prior, in July 2013, Louisa had obtained a protection-from-abuse order against him, which required him to surrender his firearms. Despite this, the investigation into her death led authorities to uncover that Jules, a convicted felon on drug charges from 1977, was illegally in possession of two rifles and two pistols. In October 2014, he pleaded guilty to four felony gun charges and was sentenced to prison. By the time of Louisa's death, the couple, who had been married for a decade and shared a young son, were estranged, with Jules only permitted at the home for custody exchanges.
More than a decade has passed, and Louisa Krenzel's murder remains unsolved. No official suspect has ever been named. A vague lead of an older, white pickup truck seen in the vicinity on the day of the shooting has not led to a breakthrough. Pennsylvania State Police continue to seek information from the public, leaving a family to wonder if the person responsible for the violent end to a woman's life will ever be brought to justice.
