On March 31, 2014, 10-year-old TaNiyah Thomas was tragically shot and killed during an attempted home invasion in Washington, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred early in the morning when an armed man tried to force his way into the apartment where TaNiyah lived. Hearing the commotion, TaNiyah got out of bed and headed towards her mother's room, but was fatally shot through the apartment door. She was pronounced dead at Washington Hospital later that morning.
