Michael Whitelaw, a 50-year-old Black man, was found dead inside a ground-floor apartment in north Minneapolis after what began as a routine welfare check turned into a homicide investigation. On the morning of Thursday, October 27, 2016, police were called to an apartment building near the corner of Glenwood Avenue North and Knox Avenue after the building manager reported concern for a resident.
