Donte Lee Johnson, a 30-year-old man from Philadelphia, was visiting friends in Compton, California, when his life was tragically cut short on the afternoon of March 5, 2021. While attending a social gathering on North Long Beach Boulevard, an armed individual approached and opened fire in the direction of Johnson and his friends. Johnson was struck in the upper torso by the gunfire.
Responding to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies
found Johnson on the ground with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related and that Johnson, a visitor to the area, was an innocent victim caught in a senseless act of violence.
After the shooting, the suspect was seen getting into the rear passenger seat of a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser. The vehicle, which was missing two hubcaps and had a sticker on the lower left corner of the rear window, then fled the scene. Authorities have offered a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Donte Lee Johnson's murder. The investigation remains ongoing as his family continues to seek justice for their loss.
