In the early morning hours of October 25, 2014, the life of 21-year-old Matthew Eric McGlone, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Washington, Pennsylvania. The fatal encounter occurred around 2:18 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Comfort Lounge on Jefferson Avenue. McGlone sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the attack. Following the shooting, he was transported by a private vehicle to Washington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m. The Washington County Coroner swiftly ruled his death a homicide.
Washington police detectives launched an investigation into the shooting, discovering numerous shell casings at the scene, which suggested there may have been more than one assailant. Investigators believed there were likely multiple witnesses to the event and began the process of trying to locate them. The shooting of McGlone happened just two hours after another man was shot and wounded in a separate incident on Lincoln Terrace. However, the city's police chief at the time stated that the two shootings were not considered to be related.
Despite the ongoing investigation and pleas for information from the community, no arrests have ever been made in connection with Matthew McGlone's murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case grew cold over the years, leaving his family and friends without answers. McGlone, who was remembered for his love of music and the Baltimore Ravens, was scheduled to start a new job just two days after he was killed. In January 2024, the City of Washington Police Department announced a renewed effort to solve several unsolved homicides, including McGlone's. They continue to believe that individuals in the community possess information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.
