Jennifer Lynn Bower, a 35-year-old woman from Salem Township, Pennsylvania, tragically died on June 3, 2015. Her death was part of a murder-suicide incident involving Shawn Kishbaugh, a 28-year-old man. According to reports, Bower had obtained a protection-from-abuse order against Kishbaugh just a week before her death. The order barred Kishbaugh from having any contact with her.

When police arrived, they found both Bower and Kishbaugh dead from gunshot wounds. The coroner ruled Bower's death a homicide and Kishbaugh's a suicide. Bower had claimed in obtaining the PFA that Kishbaugh had threatened to kill her multiple times, including an incident where she jumped from a moving car after he threatened to crash it.
The investigation concluded that the incident was a result of a domestic dispute involving a gun. The tragic event shocked the community, as such incidents were rare in Salem Township. The police believed it was an isolated incident and assured the public that there was no danger to the community.
