In the early morning hours of July 10, 2016, the quiet of Turtle Creek was broken by a grim discovery. A passing motorist on McMasters Street spotted a figure lying in the road and quickly dialed 911. When police and paramedics arrived shortly before 2:30 a.m., they found 22-year-old Cheyenne Allen, a Black male from nearby Wilkinsburg, deceased at the scene. He had been shot multiple times in his head and neck.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred around 2:00 a.m.
in the 500 block of McMasters Street. It was reported that Allen had been at a party earlier in the evening and was looking for a ride home when his life was cut short. Police have stated their belief that Cheyenne Allen likely knew the person or persons responsible for his death. The Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation, treating it as a homicide.
In the days following the shooting, family and friends of Cheyenne Allen gathered for a vigil at the spot where his body was found. They lit candles, shared memories, and prayed for justice, expressing the profound pain and uncertainty that his sudden and violent death had brought into their lives. Their hope was that someone with information would come forward to help investigators solve the case.
In an effort to generate leads, Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers offered a reward for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case. Authorities urged anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area on the night of the murder to contact them. Despite these efforts and the initial belief that the perpetrator was known to the victim, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the years since Cheyenne Allen's death.
