Jerame Turner, a 16-year-old male student at Woodland Hills High School, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, on November 27, 2017. Turner was found shot on George Street shortly after 11 p.m., and despite being rushed to Forbes Regional Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. A 13-year-old boy was also shot in the arm during the incident but survived.
The circumstances surrounding Turner's death remain unclear, as Allegheny County police have not
released a motive or identified any suspects. The shooting occurred less than a mile from Turner's home, and there was no indication that he was in an inappropriate location at the time. Turner was remembered fondly by his community, including his football coach, Chris Edmonds, who described him as a bright and popular young man.
In the aftermath of Turner's death, efforts to address violence in the area were highlighted. The Allegheny County Health Department had created an office of violence prevention the previous year, funded by the Heinz Endowment. Despite these efforts, Turner's death was part of a wave of violence affecting the Woodland Hills School District, with other students also falling victim to shootings in the months leading up to and following his death.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation into Turner's murder remains open. The community continues to mourn the loss of Turner and seeks justice for the young life cut short by this senseless act of violence.
