On the morning of June 2, 2017, a sense of normalcy was shattered in a Chester, Pennsylvania neighborhood. Zion Abdullah, a 16-year-old Black male, was on his way to Chester High School, where he was a sophomore and a football player. It was around 7:30 a.m. when an altercation broke out near the intersection of 11th and Kerlin streets. In the moments that followed, gunfire erupted, and Zion was struck.
