On the night of Friday, June 11, 2010, law enforcement officers in Detroit, Michigan, received a call regarding a shooting on the city's northwest side. At approximately 11:10 p.m., police arrived at the intersection of West 7 Mile Road and Snowden Street to investigate the report. Upon securing the scene near the 18600 block of Snowden, officers discovered Black male Rodney Newby, age 50, lying on his back and suffering from a critical gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of hospital staff to save his life, Newby succumbed to his injuries two days later, passing away on June 13, 2010.
