In the summer of 2019, a dispute between a landlord and his tenant over rent escalated into a fatal encounter in the Garfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Matthew Andrew Khoury, a 37-year-old male, was shot and killed in his Kincaid Street home in the early morning hours of July 22, 2019. The man responsible for his death was his tenant, Michael Wolf, who was 50 years old at the time.
The conflict had been brewing for some time, with Khoury seeking back rent from Wolf.
On the night of the shooting, the disagreement intensified. According to police reports, Khoury had flashed a Taser at Wolf during an argument. About two hours later, just after midnight, Wolf called 911 to report that he had shot Khoury, claiming that Khoury had approached him with the Taser again. When police arrived at the residence, they found Khoury unresponsive with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, Michael Wolf surrendered to police, who found him at a nearby intersection with his arms in the air.
