In the late summer of 2019, the life of 50-year-old Derrick William Potts was tragically cut short in Danville, Pennsylvania. On September 24th, Potts was fatally shot at the Super 8 Motel, a place that would become the final scene of his life. The incident prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, with the Montour County Coroner being called to the hotel.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect, David Downing of Missouri.
State police indicated that the fatal shooting might have been connected to a reported rape. Downing was subsequently arrested and charged with homicide. He admitted to police that he had shot Derrick Potts at the motel.
In December of 2021, the legal proceedings against David Downing came to a close. A jury found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the death of Derrick William Potts.
