Lydia Alamillo Bulaon, a 72-year-old woman of Filipino descent, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019, in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Her life was cut short during an argument with her 88-year-old boyfriend, Bernard Pedreira, at their home in Tunkhannock Township. Bulaon, a registered nurse who had worked at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, was born in Manila, Philippines, and had lived in Englewood, New Jersey, before moving to Long Pond two decades prior to her death.
The fatal incident unfolded in the early morning hours when an argument erupted over Pedreira's guns. According to a police affidavit, Pedreira told officers he was cleaning his firearms when Bulaon yelled at him to put them away. He initially claimed that she grabbed a loaded gun and it discharged, killing her. However, he later admitted to investigators that his finger was on the trigger at the time the weapon fired.
