Joshua McRae, a 31-year-old man from Trenton, New Jersey, was found dead on January 19, 2020, along Interstate 295 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. McRae had multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide. The investigation revealed that McRae was shot five times inside a sport-utility vehicle by Robert S. Christie, a 37-year-old gang member from Trenton. Christie, who was sitting in the front seat, turned around and shot McRae after being irritated by a comment McRae made.
After shooting McRae, Christie dragged his body out of the vehicle and dumped it on the side of the highway.
The case remained unsolved for several months until Christie and two other men were charged in August 2022 following an investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and Bucks County Detectives. Christie was found guilty of first-degree murder, flight to avoid apprehension, hindering apprehension, possession of an instrument of crime, and abuse of a corpse. During the trial, Christie claimed he acted in self-defense, but the jury rejected this defense and convicted him.
In January 2024, Christie was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Joshua McRae.
