On August 7, 2020, 32-year-old Jennie Luckie was tragically shot and killed in Chester, Pennsylvania. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her boyfriend, 38-year-old Christopher King, when they were attacked by gunfire. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a white Nissan Rogue pulled up next to their car and the shooter, later identified as 36-year-old John Blackston, began firing multiple gunshots into the vehicle.
Luckie was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. King, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in critical condition. Police later discovered the actual crime scene on the 700 block of Wilson Street, where they found a dozen spent shell casings.
John Blackston was arrested on August 8, 2020, and charged with first-degree murder, among other charges. He was arraigned on August 9, 2020. During the investigation, King identified Blackston as the shooter in court, recounting how he saw Blackston's face and beard before the gunshots rang out.
In September 2022, Blackston was convicted of first-degree murder and related charges for the shooting death of Jennie Luckie and the wounding of Christopher King. The jury deliberated for about three hours before delivering the guilty verdict. Blackston was also found guilty of criminal homicide, attempted murder, aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime, and firearms offenses.
The motive behind the shooting has not been publicly disclosed by investigators. The tragic loss of Jennie Luckie has left a lasting impact on her family, friends, and the community of Chester, PA.
