Rebecca Hall Evans, a 51-year-old woman from Gilbertsville, PA, tragically lost her life on September 14, 2020. She was found dead at her home in New Hanover Township, along with her husband, Stephen Mihalcik, 56, and her father-in-law, Gerald Mihalcik, 78. The incident was determined to be a case of domestic violence.
Authorities reported that Gerald Mihalcik shot both Rebecca and Stephen before taking his own life. Stephen was initially found alive and transported to Reading Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office conducted autopsies and confirmed that Rebecca died from a gunshot wound to the head, ruling her death a homicide.
The tragic event has drawn attention to the increasing cases of domestic violence in Montgomery County. District Attorney Kevin Steele emphasized the importance of seeking help in violent situations and provided resources such as the Laurel House hotline and the Women’s Center of Montgomery County hotline for those in need.
