In the quiet town of Mountville, Pennsylvania, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal encounter on the evening of Friday, April 16, 2021. Richard Williams, a man whose life was abruptly cut short, was shot and killed inside his home on Hillside Drive. The incident unfolded following a heated argument, reportedly over finances, with his ex-wife, Cherrelle Byrd.
According to accounts from that night, the couple's son had initially called the police to report that his father was
intoxicated and fighting with his mother. The situation took a tragic turn when Byrd, a 34-year-old woman at the time, retrieved a 9mm handgun. She later told authorities that as Williams was approaching her from a short distance away, she fired a single shot. The bullet struck Williams, who was then transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
In the immediate aftermath, Cherrelle Byrd was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide. She admitted to shooting Williams at the scene and during a subsequent police interview.
