A promising young man’s life was cut short in the parking lot of a Target in Lower Nazareth, Pennsylvania, an event that shattered the peace of a Sunday afternoon and left a family mourning. Twenty-year-old Elijah Jonathan Johnson, a male with a passion for football and a future that seemed bright, was fatally shot on August 8, 2021, in what authorities would later describe as a drug deal that escalated into a robbery and then murder.
The incident unfolded around 2:15 p.m. when an argument erupted between Johnson and two other men. The dispute quickly turned violent, and Johnson suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Another man, Jayzell Avery Sanders, who was with Johnson, was also shot and injured. In the immediate aftermath, Sanders was charged with carrying a firearm without a license.
The investigation into Johnson's death led authorities to identify two suspects from Harrisburg: Jakiye Taylor and Kevin Littles. The motive, as it emerged, was a plan to purchase marijuana from Johnson and Sanders that turned into a violent robbery. It was alleged that both Taylor and Littles brandished firearms with the intent to rob the two men.
In May 2022, Jakiye Taylor was apprehended and charged with homicide. His case moved through the legal system, and in 2024, he pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. As a result of his plea, he was sentenced to twenty to forty years in prison. His accomplice, Kevin Littles, who authorities identified as the alleged triggerman, remained at large for a period. However, he was eventually taken into custody and is currently awaiting trial for his role in the fatal shooting. While incarcerated and awaiting trial, Littles faced additional charges of aggravated assault for allegedly attacking two fellow inmates with a makeshift weapon in May 2024.
