Amy E. Hoffer, a 55-year-old woman from Erie, PA, tragically passed away on August 28, 2021, at her residence on Lincoln Avenue. Amy was born on February 14, 1966, in Leechburg, PA, and worked at The Plastek Group for 30 years. She was a loving mother to her two sons, Paul and Nicholas Hoffer, and was known for her involvement in her community, including singing at the Cathedral of St. Paul.
Amy's death was the result of a murder-suicide.
Her ex-boyfriend, Greg Ziacik, forced his way into her home early on the morning of August 28th and shot her before taking his own life. Amy had obtained a restraining order against Ziacik after their relationship ended, but he continued to harass her. The incident was ruled as a homicide and a suicide by Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook.
The community came together to honor Amy's memory with a vigil, where local religious groups blessed the site of her murder and shared stories of her life. Amy's family hopes that by sharing her story, others in abusive relationships will seek help and avoid similar tragedies.
