Tyrhi Keonne McCray, a 21-year-old African American male, was found with gunshot wounds at the intersection of West 7th Street and Parker Street. He was rushed to the nearby Crozer-Chester Medical Center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The incident, which occurred around 6:55 p.m., also claimed the life of another man, Amaige Malik Shakur-Merritt, who was discovered deceased inside a vehicle a block away.
Tyrhi, born on March 14, 2000, was a graduate of Chester High School's class of 2018. Known for his affectionate smile and bright eyes, he was a beloved son, brother, and friend. In his youth, he played football for the Chester Panthers, wearing the number 33. He was remembered by his family as being very protective of his female relatives.
The family's grief was compounded by another sudden loss just days after Tyrhi's death. His mother, Keyonna McCray, passed away on January 5, 2022. This followed the earlier tragedy of his sister, Tyazha McCray's death.
As of the latest available reports, the investigation into the double homicide is ongoing. Law enforcement officials have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting that cut Tyrhi McCray's life short.
