An 18-year-old Black male, Konyae Nafis Rice, tragically lost his life on the night of March 5, 2022, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Just before midnight, he was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the rear driveway of an apartment building on Cedar Park Avenue in the West Oak Lane neighborhood. Nearby, inside a stolen Kia Sportage, two of his friends were also found deceased. They were identified as 18-year-old Lamir 'Naseem' Timms, who had been shot in the head, and 20-year-old Ahmed Graham, who was found in the back seat with a gunshot wound to his back.
Known affectionately as 'Fatyae',' Konyae had recently celebrated his 18th birthday on February 14, 2004. He was a student at John Bartram High School and was on the verge of graduation. Those who knew him remembered his 'louder than life mouth and his infectious laugh,' and his entrepreneurial spirit, which he demonstrated by starting his own business selling snacks in middle school. He was a bright young man who had previously been accepted into a mentally gifted program and enjoyed playing football and video games with his friends.
The investigation into the triple homicide has been met with frustration and a painful lack of progress for the families of the victims. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear to the public. Konyae's mother, Magdalena Rice, has expressed her belief that the driver of the vehicle may have been the intended target. She clings to the hope that a wallet found inside the car, which did not belong to her son or his friends, might eventually provide a lead for investigators. The City of Philadelphia is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this devastating loss of three young lives. The case remains unsolved, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved the young men.
