On July 1, 2022, 14-year-old Quincy Long Jr., a young boy from Upper Darby, PA, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident. Quincy, who was an honor roll student at Beverly Hills Middle School, was playing with a group of friends in the basement of a home on Ruskin Lane when the incident occurred. The group was making music videos, and one of the children brought a firearm, which they passed around taking photos with it.
Unfortunately, the gun went off, and Quincy was fatally shot in the chest.
The suspect in this case is 16-year-old Jermaine Young, also from Upper Darby. According to police reports, Young was holding the gun when it discharged, and he initially fled the scene but later turned himself in to the authorities. Young has been charged with third-degree murder and other related offenses. He was arraigned and placed in a juvenile facility.
The community responded to Quincy's death with a vigil held by his family and friends, who remembered him as an innocent and loving young man. The Upper Darby Council and local officials also attended the vigil, calling for justice and urging those with guns to put them down. The investigation into Quincy's death continues as authorities work to bring Young to justice.
