On a September evening in 2022, the life of 33-year-old Sade Lanise Brown was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence in Braddock, Pennsylvania. The Black/African American woman from McKeesport was standing outside along Pine Way at approximately 9:40 p.m. on September 6th when she was struck by a single gunshot to the chest. Emergency responders rushed her to Forbes Hospital, but her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
Investigators
believe Brown was the victim of a drive-by shooting, a suspicion bolstered by the fact that no shell casings were discovered at the scene. This lack of evidence has presented a significant challenge to the ongoing investigation. Due to staffing shortages within the Braddock Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police took the lead on the case. Law enforcement has been examining surveillance footage from the area in the hopes of identifying those responsible for Brown's death. Her family remembers her as an innocent bystander, a loving mother, niece, and daughter who was simply visiting a friend at the wrong time.
