In the late hours of December 6, 2022, the life of 34-year-old Demetres Lewis was tragically cut short in York, Pennsylvania. Responding to a report of shots fired at approximately 11:50 p.m., York City Police arrived in the area of West Poplar Street and South Belvidere Avenue to find Lewis with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight on December 7.
The cause of death was later determined to be from the multiple gunshots he sustained.
The investigation into the homicide of the York man led detectives through a series of interviews and the execution of multiple search warrants. Their efforts ultimately pointed to 22-year-old Stephon Brown as the primary suspect. Seven months after the fatal shooting, on July 6, 2023, Brown was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide for the death of Demetres Lewis.
Following his arrest, Stephon Brown, a resident of New Freedom, faced the judicial system. In May 2025, a jury found Brown guilty of first-degree murder and a firearms-related charge. For his role in the 2022 killing, Brown received a life sentence in August 2023. His sentencing for the murder of Demetres Lewis was scheduled for August 25, 2025. The successful prosecution was a result of the collaborative efforts of the York City Police and the York County District Attorney's Office.
