Patrolman Louis E. Golonka, aged 33, was a dedicated officer of the Cleveland Police Department. On July 23, 1968, during the Glenville Shootout, Golonka responded to a call about police officers being shot at. He and other officers pursued snipers into an alley where they exchanged gunfire. Unfortunately, Golonka was shot in the chest by several shotgun blasts and was pronounced dead at Forest City Hospital later that evening.
