Patrolman Richard Elton Becker, aged 36, was a dedicated officer with the Poland Township Police Department in Ohio. On the night of November 6, 1983, Becker was on routine patrol when he received a report of a suspicious person near a bar on State Route 170. Responding to the call, Becker began investigating the area on foot. Unfortunately, due to the darkness, he initially missed the suspect.
