On June 28, 2011, the city of Detroit, Michigan, was the scene of the untimely death of Perry Long, an 18-year-old Black male who had been a student and athlete in the local community. Long was found at a location on Howard Street, an incident that added to a troubling list of violent crimes plaguing the area during that summer.
