Daniel Vincent Parmertor, a 16-year-old male student at Chardon High School in Chardon, Ohio, tragically lost his life on February 27, 2012. Parmertor was born on September 9, 1995, and was known for his passion for computers, skiing, and spending time with his family. He was a junior at Chardon High School and was also attending the Auburn Career Center for computer networking.
On the morning of February 27, 2012, Parmertor was one of six students shot by 17-year-old Thomas Michael
"T.J." Lane III, a former student of Chardon High School. The shooting occurred in the school cafeteria, and Parmertor, along with two other students, Demetrius Hewlin and Russell King Jr., was fatally wounded. Two other students were seriously injured, with one sustaining permanent paralysis.
Following the shooting, Lane was arrested near his car parked outside the school. He was charged with three counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated attempted murder, and one count of felonious assault. Lane pleaded guilty and received three consecutive life sentences without parole on March 19, 2013.
In addition to the criminal charges, the families of the deceased students filed wrongful death suits against the Chardon School District and Lake Academy Alternative School. The suits were eventually settled, with the Lane family agreeing to pay nearly $2.7 million in damages.
The tragic loss of Daniel Vincent Parmertor deeply affected the Chardon community, and he is remembered fondly by his family, friends, and classmates. His legacy lives on through the Danny Parmertor Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships for students pursuing computer-related professions.
