James Mayer Jr., a 65-year-old Caucasian male, was the Richland County Prosecutor in Mansfield, Ohio. On September 26, 2014, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home on Dickson Parkway. Mayer had been serving as the county prosecutor since 1988 and was well-respected in his profession. His death was ruled as a suicide, and the community was deeply shocked by the news.
