Anthony Wayne "Andy" Shields, a 42-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically passed away on February 3, 2015, in Dundee, OH. Shields was a bartender at Dundee Grill and was fatally shot by Matthew Leon Thompson, 34, of Beach City, OH. The incident occurred while Shields was closing the bar for the night. Thompson, who was upset over his ongoing divorce, called his estranged wife to confess to the murder and subsequently led authorities on a low-speed pursuit.
After nearly five hours of negotiations, Thompson took his own life.
The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office investigated the case, concluding it as a murder-suicide. Thompson used a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, believed to be the murder weapon, which was recovered from his truck. No other individuals were harmed during the incident.
The case did not result in any arrests or ongoing litigation, as Thompson died at the scene. The investigation was closed following the determination of the events leading to Shields' death.
Shields is remembered fondly by his family and friends, including his son Robert Anthony Shields, his mother Nora Shields, and his three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army from 1990-2000 and was employed as a manager at Menards in Massillion, OH.
