Courtney L. Elmore, a 29-year-old male from Columbus, OH, was tragically shot and killed on May 31, 2015. Elmore was lured from his home on Willamont Avenue to a nearby van by Chiquetta L. Hager, a 26-year-old woman from Zanesville. Once inside the van, Elmore was shot in the head by one of the two gunmen waiting inside. His body was subsequently dumped on the curb near his home.
The investigation into Elmore's death revealed that the killing was connected to a robbery that occurred two
days earlier at Hager and Dante M. Young's home. Hager and Young, along with several others, planned to kidnap and interrogate Elmore about the robbery. Although Young did not fire a shot, he was convicted of murder, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence. Hager pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and abduction in exchange for her testimony.
Davon A. Granger, a 24-year-old man, was identified as one of the shooters and was later sentenced to 23 years in prison. Young received a life sentence with no chance of parole for 18 years, while Hager was sentenced to eight years in prison. The other gunman has not been identified or charged.
The case highlighted the tragic consequences of a robbery gone wrong and the severe penalties for those involved in such violent crimes. Elmore's death remains a somber reminder of the impact of violence and the importance of justice for victims and their families.
