Randy Scott Szychowicz, a 45-year-old man from Hinckley, Ohio, tragically passed away on February 5, 2016. Randy was known for his passion for fixing engines of all kinds, from family mowers and tractors to high-lift equipment. He is survived by his loving parents, Tom and Rita Szychowicz, as well as his brothers, Eric Sykes, Mark Szychowicz, and Dean Simms, along with his niece, Jessica, and nephews, Sam, Allen, Zack, and Parker, and two grandnieces.
The circumstances surrounding Randy's death were particularly harrowing. His brother, Dean Simms, called 911 early on the morning of February 5, 2016, to confess to killing Randy and their sister, Cindy Gesaman, 52, with shotgun blasts to their heads. Dean Simms, who was 42 years old at the time, admitted to the police dispatcher that he had been dealing with a lifetime of headaches and that he "snapped" during the incident. He was later arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated murder.
Dean Simms was held in the Medina County Jail on a $10 million bond while awaiting trial. He eventually pleaded guilty to the murders and faced life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case was highly unusual for the quiet township of Hinckley, which had not seen homicides since 2007.
The tragic loss of Randy Szychowicz and Cindy Gesaman left a profound impact on their family and the community, highlighting the devastating effects of domestic disputes and mental health issues.
