Maxwell Max John Muzyczka, a 13-year-old boy from Hinckley, Ohio, tragically died on February 1, 2020, due to an accidental shooting. Max was an eighth grader at Highland Middle School and was known as a good student and athlete. The incident occurred at his home, and despite being rushed to the Cleveland Clinic's Brunswick campus and later flown to Metro Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Highland Local School District released a statement identifying Max and requesting that any additional speculation or narrative not be spread out of respect for the Muzyczka family. The district also mentioned that Max's mother, Julie, was an active volunteer at the school, and his older brother, Jack, had graduated from Highland the previous year. Crisis counselors were made available to help grieving students and staff in the aftermath of the tragedy.
There were no arrests, suspects, litigations, or murder investigations related to Max's death, as it was determined to be an accident. The community mourned the loss of a beloved young boy who had a positive impact on those around him.
Max's family and friends remembered him fondly, and he was able to give the gift of life to six recipients through organ donation. His funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Hinckley, and he was laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Avon, Ohio.
