In the early morning hours of a cold December day in 2011, a night out in Detroit for 30-year-old Scott Groat turned into a fatal encounter. A talented tattoo artist from the downriver community of Wyandotte and a doting father to a one-year-old daughter, Groat had been attending a private party at the MGM Grand Detroit with a friend. The evening took a tragic turn when, at approximately 3 a.m. on December 18th, he found himself in a confrontation just a few blocks from the casino.
While walking in the vicinity of Grand River and Bagley, Groat was approached by a group of what authorities believe to be three unidentified men.
