Monique Weston, a 34-year-old woman from Columbus, OH, tragically died on July 21, 2016, from multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by her estranged husband, Lenzell Weston. Monique had endured years of abuse from Lenzell, who had been charged with domestic violence six times in the past three years. On the day before her death, Monique reported to Columbus police that Lenzell had assaulted her, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
However, Lenzell remained at large.
The following morning, Monique's 17-year-old daughter called 911, reporting that she and her three younger siblings were hiding in their home after hearing gunshots and her mother screaming. When officers arrived, they found Monique bleeding in the bathroom and rushed her to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Lenzell Weston was later indicted on six felony charges, including aggravated murder and murder with firearms and repeat violent offender specifications. He was also charged with multiple domestic violence counts and using a weapon under disability. Lenzell was arrested five days after the murder and admitted to the crime, claiming he "just snapped". In 2018, he was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 18 years.
