David Manuel Barreiro, a 23-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Lorain, OH, tragically lost his life on December 10, 2016. Barreiro was a self-taught musician who played the piano and drums, and was also a songwriter and producer under the name Dae Billz. He was an entrepreneur who operated his own music studio for eight years and was known for making music that evoked a range of emotions.
Barreiro was also an amazing father to his two-year-old daughter, Kailani.
On the night of his death, Barreiro was at his Shore Drive apartment when two men broke in, and a shootout ensued. Barreiro was shot four times and succumbed to his injuries. The suspect in the case, Abline Cannon, was later identified and charged with aggravated murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and weapons under disability. Cannon was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.
Cannon's mother and sister were also implicated in the case for allegedly providing false information to the police and obstructing justice. They were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice. Cannon fled to the hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound but left against medical advice before he could be arrested. He was eventually found hiding under a pile of clothes in an apartment in Kent.
The case against Cannon included both physical and circumstantial evidence, such as DNA matching Cannon's blood found at the scene, gun shell casings, and bullet holes. Prosecutors argued that Cannon and at least one accomplice kicked in the door of Barreiro's apartment and shot him before he could even leave his bedroom. Cannon's defense claimed he was merely present during a drug sale when the shooting occurred.
In summary, David Barreiro's death was the result of a violent home invasion and shooting, leading to the arrest and conviction of Abline Cannon, who received a lengthy prison sentence. The case also involved Cannon's family members, who faced charges for obstructing justice.
