On January 1, 2017, Trevis Stephens, a 33-year-old man from Bedford, Ohio, was tragically shot and killed at the Lounge 2.28 Bar and Grill on Northfield Road. Stephens was inside the bar when a bullet came through a window and struck him. He was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred around 2:25 a.m., and authorities believe it was a random act of violence.

The investigation led to the arrest of John Word, a 35-year-old man from Cleveland, who was identified as the shooter. Word turned himself in to the police and was later charged with murder. He was held without bond and scheduled for arraignment. Surveillance footage showed Word retrieving a gun from his car and returning to the bar to shoot randomly after being thrown out by security.

Additionally, Claire Murray, a 35-year-old woman from Cleveland, was arrested as the suspected getaway driver. She was seen in the surveillance video with Word at the time of the incident and was charged with complicity to murder. Murray was held on a $250,000 bond and also appeared in court for a hearing.

The Bedford Police Department continued to follow numerous leads and sought information from the public to aid in their investigation. Despite their efforts, the case remains a tragic reminder of the senseless violence that can occur in unexpected places.
