Amanda 'Mandi' Mangas, a 23-year-old woman from Delta, Ohio, tragically lost her life on March 14, 2017. Born on October 14, 1993, Amanda was a graduate of Delta High School and was pursuing a degree in nursing at Defiance College. At the time of her death, she was working as a server at the Delta 109 restaurant. Amanda was known for her love of spending time with her family and friends, especially her young son, Winston.
On the morning of her death, Amanda was found in her home with a
gunshot wound to her chest. She was rushed to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later. Before passing away, Amanda informed the police that her son, Winston, and her stepmother, Deborah Mangas, had been kidnapped. This led to the issuance of an Amber Alert in three states to rescue the toddler and stepmother.
The investigation quickly focused on Amanda's ex-boyfriend, James Ramey, who was identified as the primary suspect. Amanda had taken out a protective order against Ramey due to his violent behavior, including threats to kill her. Ramey was arrested a few hours after the murder while attempting to flee to Chicago. He was found with Winston and Deborah Mangas in northern Indiana.
James Ramey was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated murder, attempted murder, aggravated burglary, and abduction. He eventually pleaded guilty to the murder of Amanda Mangas and the kidnapping of her son and stepmother. In July 2018, Ramey was sentenced to 27 1/2 years in prison for his crimes.
