Rebecca Welber, a 52-year-old woman from Hamilton, Ohio, tragically died on July 8, 2017. She was found dead in her home along with her husband, James Welber, 53, in what police initially believed to be a murder-suicide. Rebecca had multiple gunshot wounds, and James had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The couple was in the process of a divorce at the time of their deaths.
The investigation revealed that James Welber shot Rebecca before taking his own life. The Butler County Coroner’s Office ruled Rebecca’s death a homicide, and James’ death a suicide. Investigators believe that Rebecca was shot on July 5, and James shot himself shortly after. The couple was found in the same bedroom of their home, and a 9mm Glock handgun was recovered at the scene.
