Elliot A. Spikes, a 34-year-old male from Painesville, Ohio, tragically passed away on August 27, 2017, from a gunshot wound. He was found in the early hours of the morning in the 130 block of West Jackson Street. The Painesville Police Department responded to the scene and took him to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The case was investigated by the Painesville Detective Bureau, but no arrests were made immediately following the incident.

A. Jackson, a 27-year-old Painesville resident, was arraigned in connection with Spikes' death. Jackson faced multiple charges, including first-degree felony discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, first-degree felony trafficking in cocaine, first-degree felony possession of cocaine, third-degree felony reckless homicide, and third-degree felony tampering with evidence. The reckless homicide and tampering with evidence charges each carried a firearm specification, which included a three-year mandatory prison term if convicted. Jackson's bond was set at $50,000, with a 10 percent cash option, and he was prohibited from contacting the Spikes family as a condition of his bond.
The investigation into Elliot Spikes' death remains ongoing, and the case has been assigned to Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Vincent A. Culotta. The community continues to seek justice for Spikes, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward to assist in the investigation.
