Derray Deshawn Kennedy, a 20-year-old male from Cincinnati, Ohio, tragically passed away on December 11, 2017. He was found shot in the driver's seat of a red pickup truck that crashed on Eastlawn Drive in Roselawn, Cincinnati. Despite being rushed to U.C. Medical Center, Derray succumbed to his injuries.
The incident was part of a double homicide, with another victim, Demetrius Powell, 22, also found dead at the scene.
Police investigations revealed that Derray and Demetrius were involved in a shooting, and it was believed that they shot and killed each other. The police did not initially identify any suspects and were interviewing witnesses to gather more information.
In a related case, Kiandre Erkins, 21, was later indicted for two murders, including Derray's, as well as a shooting and several robberies. Although prosecutors did not believe Erkins pulled the trigger in Derray's death, he was charged with complicity in the crime due to his involvement with Demetrius Powell during the incident.
The case brought significant attention to the issues of gun violence and youth crime in Cincinnati, leading to ongoing discussions about community safety and crime prevention measures.
