William Axel IV, a 20-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically lost his life on March 2, 2018, in Toledo, Ohio. Axel was transported to St. Anne's Hospital by a friend, but he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The investigation into Axel's death led to the arrest of Eliakim Yates, an 18-year-old male from Toledo. Yates was charged with murder after he allegedly used a sawed-off shotgun to shoot Axel in the neck, resulting in his instant death. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Yates had been bullied by Axel at Whitmer High School, although Axel's mother disputed this claim, stating that her son had graduated from Erie Mason High School.
Yates entered an Alford plea, which means he did not admit guilt but acknowledged that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him. Judge James Bates found Yates guilty and sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 16 years.
