On July 11, 2018, Darnez Canion, a 20-year-old male of Maple Heights, Ohio, tragically lost his life due to a gunshot wound. Darnez was found lying in the drive of the school with a gunshot wound, and despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at Bedford Medical Center.

The investigation revealed that the fight involved approximately 15 to 20 males, and surveillance footage showed one individual, later identified as Tysean Martin, holding a firearm and retreating from the area after shots were fired. Martin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated riot, and having weapons while under disability. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
