Jwan N. Porter, a 40-year-old woman from Columbus, Ohio, tragically passed away on October 9, 2018. She was affectionately known as "TJ" to her friends and family. Jwan was a dedicated mother to her five children and worked at the Westgate Recreation Center and for the City of Columbus for over a decade. She was also employed at Burge Services as a Direct Care Supervisor.
Jwan was known for her energetic personality and her love for children and young adults, often mentoring many in her community.
On the night of her death, Jwan was found inside her home on Labelle Drive with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away about an hour later. The initial investigation suggested that the shooting was accidental, caused by someone mishandling a firearm inside the home. However, further investigation revealed that Eric Lamar Smith-Ross, a visitor at the house, allegedly fired the gun that killed Jwan. Smith-Ross was arrested and charged with a separate offense related to her death, and additional charges are pending.
