Tiarra Tasha Seals, a 22-year-old woman from Columbus, OH, tragically lost her life on November 21, 2018. She was fatally shot by Leo N. Stanford Jr., the father of her two young children, in an ambush attack as she was getting into a car with two of her coworkers. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, around 4:30 a.m., in front of the home where Seals lived on Argyle Drive.
Seals' coworkers, Dreamma Lynn Montgomery and Dwayne Thomas Madison, were also injured in the shooting. Montgomery suffered severe injuries and has been bedridden in a nursing home since the incident. The only witness to the shooting was Seals' then 15-year-old brother, Arthur Seals, who identified Stanford as the gunman. Stanford was convicted of aggravated murder, attempted murder, and firing a gun on a public roadway. He received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The prosecution presented no physical evidence linking Stanford to the crime scene, but the testimony of Seals' brother and the rocky relationship between Stanford and Seals were key factors in the conviction. Stanford and Seals had recently separated, and Seals had moved out of their shared apartment with their children to live with her father.
