On May 1, 2025, tragedy struck in Columbus, Ohio, when Giannh Viars, a 21-year-old white female, was fatally shot in what authorities have described as a double murder-suicide. The incident unfolded at an apartment complex on Esquire Drive, where Viars lived. According to police reports, Viars had been separated from her estranged husband, Michael Hughes, a 23-year-old white male.
In the time following their separation, Viars had begun dating Aiden David, a 19-year-old white male.
The fatal encounter occurred when Hughes arrived at Viars' apartment in the early hours of the morning. He fired a single shot into the apartment before forcing his way inside, where he immediately shot and killed David. Viars attempted to flee, but Hughes pursued her outside the front door and shot her, causing her to collapse.
