Mohammed Shahin, a 33-year-old male of Middle Eastern descent, was tragically killed on February 5, 2019, in Cleveland, Ohio. Shahin, who was the owner of a beverage store, was shot during an armed robbery. The incident occurred at his store located near Lakeview Road and Durant Avenue.
The Cleveland Division of Police homicide unit identified three suspects connected to the crime: Keyshawn Smith, Andre McKelvey, and Robert McKelvey Jr.
According to the investigation, Smith was identified as the shooter, while McKelvey and McKelvey Jr were involved in the robbery. The trio was also linked to seven other armed robberies in the Cuyahoga County area.
In the aftermath of the crime, Keyshawn Smith was charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to life in prison, with eligibility for parole after 30 years. Andre McKelvey and Robert McKelvey Jr entered guilty pleas to charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery. McKelvey was sentenced to 21 years in prison, and McKelvey Jr received a 14-year sentence.
The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, Michael O'Malley, stated that the sentences brought some peace to Shahin's family and hoped it would help the community heal from the havoc caused by the crime spree. The tragic death of Mohammed Shahin highlighted the severe impact of armed robberies and the importance of community safety measures.
