On February 19, 2023, 33-year-old Benjamin Irizarry was fatally shot in his Cleveland, Ohio, home. According to reports, his wife stated that she accidentally discharged the firearm while attempting to clear it. Emergency responders arrived at the scene on McGowan Avenue to find Mr. Irizarry unresponsive; he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The Cleveland Division of Police initiated an investigation into the incident.
As of now, there is no public information regarding any arrests or charges filed in connection with Mr. Irizarry's death. The case remains under investigation by the Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit.
Mr. Irizarry was survived by his parents, Nilda Vazquez and Tito Irizarry, as well as several siblings and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in early March 2023, with interment at Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland.
