On April 17, 2019, 25-year-old Joceline Cordero was tragically shot and killed at her home in London, Ohio. The incident also claimed the life of her 40-year-old mother, Yaisa Cordero. The suspect, identified as 54-year-old James Evans Jr., was the ex-boyfriend of Yaisa Cordero. Evans was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the shooting.
According to reports, Evans had made threats against Yaisa Cordero prior to the incident. Friends of the family revealed that Evans had verbally and physically threatened Yaisa, and even warned her that he would come to the house. Despite these threats, Yaisa did not seem overly concerned. On the day of the shooting, Yaisa's 21-year-old son confronted Evans with a baseball bat as he was leaving the residence. Evans fired a shot at the son, grazing him near the shoulder, before turning the gun on Yaisa and Joceline.
The tragic event unfolded around noon on Landis Lane, and neighbors called 911 after hearing the gunshots and witnessing the altercation. Police later found Evans' body in his truck outside a church building off U.S. 40. The investigation revealed that Evans had driven away from the scene before taking his own life.
The community responded with an outpouring of support, setting up a GoFundMe account to help cover the funeral expenses for Yaisa and Joceline. The case was investigated by London police, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation .
